Learning Commons Librarian 2026-27

About the role

The school learning commons librarian creates an environment where collaboration, creativity and innovation as well as critical thinking and problem solving thrive. The school librarian is an excellent communicator who instills enthusiasm in others by making them feel that they are important members of a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a welcoming and resource-rich environment for students and staff
• Develops and manages the library collection and materials
• Promotes a culture of literacy within the school
• Manages school library operations
• Regularly provides learning opportunities that extend and enrich content-area learning goals
• Serves as an instructional partner by collaborating with teachers and other educators to integrate learning commons resources, technology, information literacy skills into lesson plans and units
• Identifies, plans for, and supports student research needs
• Participates in the school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and attends bi-monthly meetings

Qualifications

• A highly qualified candidate will hold appropriate state certification as a school library media specialist (071)
• Has completed a teacher preparation program and/or educational degree
• Must have a Maine Department of Education Certification
• Must have passed a Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
