Position Summary

Penn Foster Group seeks a full-time, dynamic, learner-focused Digital Learning Librarian to lead library services and asynchronous learning supports for a large, self-paced online community of learners across multiple brands and educational verticals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Information Literacy & Instruction

    • Teach, maintain, and assess the information literacy course to support student research skills, academic success, and institutional learning outcomes.
    • Develop, update, and assess library-related learning objects, including tutorials, videos, guides, handouts, and embedded instructional resources that support research, writing, citation practices, academic integrity, AI literacy, and information literacy.
    • Provide direct support to students through research consultations, virtual reference, instructional sessions, and asynchronous support.
    • Develop and deliver AI literacy initiatives that help learners and colleagues evaluate, use, and engage with artificial intelligence tools ethically, critically, and effectively in academic and professional contexts.
  • Digital Library & Resource Management

    • Maintain and improve multiple library and academic support websites on LibGuides and WordPress platforms, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, user-centered, and aligned with institutional needs.
    • Evaluate, select, and manage digital library resources that support institutional curricula and learner needs.
    • Work with library vendors to maintain access to subscription resources while evaluating resources for relevance, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with program needs.
    • Manage the Education Department's 1-on-1 appointment scheduler through LibCal, including reporting, user support, and ongoing service improvements.
  • Collaboration, Assessment & Accreditation

    • Collaborate with instructors, instructional designers, academic leaders, and cross-functional teams to integrate library resources, information literacy instruction, and academic support services into courses, programs, and student success initiatives.
    • Collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate library service data, learner engagement metrics, and instructional assessment results to support decision-making, identify opportunities to enhance learner engagement, persistence, and academic success, demonstrate impact, and drive continuous improvement.
    • Support accreditation processes by gathering documentation, preparing reports and evidence, responding to information requests, mapping resources to standards, and demonstrating the effectiveness of library and learning support services.
    • Explore and recommend emerging technologies, tools, and practices that enhance online learning, digital literacy, and learner success.
  • Professional Engagement

    • Engage in ongoing professional development and monitor trends in librarianship, educational technology, artificial intelligence, online learning, and student success to anticipate and meet learner needs.
    • Perform other job duties, including attending meetings and supporting departmental initiatives requiring the skills and expertise of a qualified digital learning librarian.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Required Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program.
    • Experience designing and delivering online instruction, digital learning objects, or library services that support remote learners.
    • Experience providing virtual library services, academic support, or research assistance in online educational environments.
    • Demonstrated ability to create engaging instructional content and learner-centered support resources.
    • Strong technology skills, including the ability to learn and manage multiple digital platforms and systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently in a remote work environment.
    • Motivated, self-directed contributor with a clear vision for library services in online learning environments.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Springshare LibGuides CMS and LibCal.
    • Experience with WordPress.
    • Experience with web analytics, usability, or web design.
    • Experience assessing instructional programs, learner engagement, or library services using qualitative and quantitative data.
    • Experience negotiating or managing library vendor relationships and contracts.
    • Experience teaching writing, composition, rhetoric, research methods, information literacy, or related academic skills.
    • Experience supporting adult learners, high school learners, or other non-traditional student populations.
    • Experience in online universities, non-traditional higher education, or distance education environments.
    • Experience with D2L Brightspace or comparable learning management systems.
