About the role
On-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; Miami, FL; or San Francisco, CA — relocation assistance available
Full-time position
Traditional elementary schools reduce expectations when students fall behind. Your approach is the opposite. You are convinced that six-year-olds possess far greater capability than conventional classrooms demand, and you have leveraged data to demonstrate this repeatedly.
Responsibilities
- Coaching both Guides and students through performance metrics, classroom observation, and explicit feedback, then ensuring accountability to quantifiable targets
- Leading one-hour live workshops for K-3 students focused on life skills including public speaking, concentration, teamwork, resilience, accountability, and feedback exchange
- Conducting individual and small-group sessions that link each child's personal interests and aspirations to tangible academic advancement
- Developing and iterating on playbooks that translate your most effective strategies into replicable systems other Guides can implement reliably
- Training Guides on these playbooks and exemplifying excellence in facilitation to maintain standards as the team expands
Qualifications
- Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; Miami, FL; or San Francisco, CA; relocation assistance is available
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, Organizational Leadership, Child Development, or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with elementary-aged children (approximately ages 5 to 9)
- Track record leading a team of 5 or more individuals, with authority to make hiring and performance-based dismissal decisions
- Proven experience building, launching, or substantially scaling a program, team, school, or initiative from inception
- Comfortable operating in an educational environment that rejects conventional teaching practices
- Authorized to work legally in the United States
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline
- Demonstrated success using metrics, dashboards, or data analytics to identify challenges and produce measurable progress
- Experience coaching or supervising other adults to achieve quantifiable results, beyond executing tasks independently
- Background in youth development, camp leadership, competitive athletics coaching, tutoring, or enrichment programs where motivating students was essential
- Proven ability facilitating or speaking publicly before groups of young children
Learning Center Director Key Responsibilities
Fulfill Alpha's three core commitments to every K-3 student: they develop a love for school, achieve learning at twice the typical pace, and cultivate outstanding life skills and self-reliance.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Providing academic instruction or presenting lectures from the front of a classroom; adaptive apps handle content delivery while you focus on coaching people
- Reducing expectations when students encounter difficulty
- Managing remotely like traditional instructional coaches or principals; you remain embedded daily with your own cohort
- Managing the entire campus budget, operations, and family relations; a Campus Lead handles those responsibilities so you can concentrate on student and Guide performance
- Advocating for traditional pedagogical approaches or adhering to standard K-12 curricula
