Seasonal position instructing participants on the fundamentals of ice skating and hockey in a safe, friendly, and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct participants on the fundamentals of ice skating and hockey in a safe, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Teach any of the following tracks based on experience:
    • Beginning level skating
    • Beginning level hockey
    • Recreational skating
    • Intermediate level hockey
    • Figure skating lessons
    • Adult skate lessons
  • Communicate with participants at all times, providing regular feedback on performance.
  • Track progress and complete participant report cards.
  • Maintain open communication with the Skating and Hockey Programmer & Director regarding participant progress.
  • Assist with special events within the Ice Facilities (e.g., public skate lessons, set-up/tear down).
  • Assist at the registration table prior to the beginning of each lesson.
  • Use the Rockford Park District's HRIS system for HR and payroll-related requirements, including clocking in and out for shifts.
  • Follow all facility and operational safety precautions.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 14 years of age (with worker’s permit).
  • Must be comfortable on and around the ice when in skates.
  • Must be able to commit 10-20 hours per week (varies based on season). Schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must enjoy working with children and adults.
  • Good communication skills to interact with participants and co-workers.
  • Ability to problem-solve in a variety of situations.

Some experience on ice is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Light to medium work: exerting in excess of 30 pounds of force occasionally, 15 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to perform moderately physically intensive tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and repetitive motions.
  • Majority of time spent standing; requires stamina on the ice.

Work Environment

  • Primarily indoors on the ice rink; environment is always cool.
  • Physically active position requiring consistent movement and engagement.

Pay

$15/hour
