General Summary
Oversees laboratory operations in multiple technical disciplines on a regular basis with minimal supervisory interaction. Performs routine and complex analytic procedures on blood and/or other body fluids using laboratory instruments and information systems.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides technical and operational leadership across multiple technical disciplines, locations, and/or workstations with minimal supervisory interaction.
- May lead laboratory meetings and represent the laboratory team at meetings.
- Oversees and performs routine and complex chemical, cytologic, hematologic, histologic, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic and/or microbiologic procedures on laboratory specimens, using manual or automated techniques and information systems.
- Applies knowledge, training, and independent clinical judgment to take action and/or develop solutions.
- Collaborates with leadership staff to improve processes and resolve problems, including:
- Evaluating instrument performance and quality control results to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all analytic data prior to release;
- Correlating results with other lab data and/or disease states;
- d) Identification of technical, instrument, pharmacologic and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
Qualifications
- Completion of accredited Bachelor’s Degree program in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medical Technology, or Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Requires 5 years of experience with progressive responsibility in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions are required.
- Certification at the technologist, medical/clinical laboratory scientist level from a nationally recognized agency, such as ASCP, NCA, ASM, AABB, ACS, or HEW is preferred.
