Principle Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversees and performs routine and complex chemical, cytologic, hematologic, histologic, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic and/or microbiologic procedures on laboratory specimens, using manual or automated techniques and information systems.
- Applies knowledge, training, and independent clinical judgment to take action and/or develop solutions.
- Collaborates with leadership staff to improve processes and resolve problems.
- Responsible for establishing and ensuring standard work with consistent quality and corrective and preventive action as needed.
- Evaluating instrument performance and quality control results to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all analytic data prior to release;
- Correlating results with other lab data and/or disease states;
- Identification of technical, instrument, pharmacologic and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
- Performs calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of technical equipment.
- Assists in the correction of technical problems and serves as a technical resource redirecting the workflow or assignments as necessary to ensure proper coverage and service standards.
- Following successful completion of competency testing, may perform processing, testing, and result reporting without direct supervision.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Completion of accredited Bachelor's Degree program in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medical Technology, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science or other sciences.
- Three (3) years of experience with progressive responsibility in a clinical laboratory setting.
Technical Proficiency and Certifications
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform, teach, and lead laboratory functions.
- Certification at the technologist, or medical/clinical laboratory scientist level from a nationally recognized agency, such as ASCP, NCA, ASM, AABB, ACS, or HEW is preferred.
