About the role

This position reports to the VP of Manufacturing and partners with the rest of the Manufacturing leadership team in support of the company’s mission success. The Leader of Manufacturing - Avionics oversees satellite component product assembly, test, and delivery to satellite integration. This role manages and provides technical leadership to Avionics and Electro-Mechanical manufacturing engineers and technicians to produce complex satellite electronic assemblies and support full-system integration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to manufacturing personnel.
  • Ensure product is manufactured safely to the highest quality standards and service levels while achieving cost improvement goals.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the health of Manufacturing and Production with respect to capacity, workforce, throughput, and bottlenecks.
  • Assist with Millennium factory build efforts regarding staffing, planning of satellite production lines, and flight program builds (both classified and unclassified).
  • Define and execute continuous improvement strategies and initiatives to achieve business objectives.
  • Manage manufacturing engineers and all technicians (avionics and harness, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and environmental test) to produce satellite components and support integration.
  • Lead and execute tasks required to transition hardware build from low-rate initial production to higher rate production.
  • Lead and execute tasks required to transition hardware build to different manufacturing locations.
  • Support proposals for future contracts and coordinate throughout the proposal gate review process.
  • Support and implement AS9100 Quality practices.
  • Partner with Boeing Space Mission Systems Operations counterparts as a Boeing non-fully integrated subsidiary leader.
  • Manage Millennium Space Systems’ Manufacturing OH and Process Improvement budgets, and capital budgets.
  • Communicate state of the company to manufacturing and production personnel.
  • Oversee the seamless integration of avionics suites into the satellite chassis, ensuring all electro-mechanical interfaces meet strict flight requirements and tolerances.
  • Implement and enforce industry-standard electronics manufacturing practices (e.g., IPC standards) alongside AS9100 Quality practices to ensure the reliability of avionics hardware.
  • Lead the transition of avionics and electro-mechanical hardware builds from low-rate initial production (LRIP) to high-rate production to meet constellation delivery timelines.
  • Develop and maintain throughput and capacity models specifically for avionics assembly, identifying bottlenecks in the electro-mechanical build process.
  • Coordinate with test engineering to ensure avionics components are manufactured for testability and that functional verification is integrated into the production flow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years’ experience in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, test engineering, materials and process engineering, or similar field in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries.
  • Subject matter expertise in one of the following areas: harnessing, printed circuit board assemblies, structural assembly, structural bonding, mechanisms, or composite honeycomb machining.
  • High level of proficiency in MRP/ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of satellite manufacturing engineering principles and concepts.
  • Experience working with a union represented workforce.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience scaling Avionics Production.
  • Box-Level Assembly, Integration, System Test.
  • Technical problem-solving skills.
  • 10+ years of industry experience working in satellite manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale manufacturing rate capability.

Pay

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Summary pay range: $181,900 - 267,500.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. Applicants MUST be U.S. citizens and eligible for a security clearance. Additionally, applicants must be willing to apply for and maintain a security clearance.
