Lead X-Ray/Mammography Technologist

Must be willing to train in QC and stereotactic breast biopsies.

About the role

The Lead X-Ray/Mammography Technologist oversees and coordinates the work of the radiologic and mammography technologist(s) within the assigned office under the general supervision of the Site Manager and the Manager of Radiologic Technologists, following established policies and procedures. This role serves as a resource for problem resolution and troubleshooting mammography QA across all sites, interacting with radiologists, referring physicians, and staff as required. Lead technologists also perform all functions of a technologist, fill in for managers at multiple sites, and act as backup for management in staff oversight and coverage.

Responsibilities

• Act as a working supervisor, scheduling and assigning technologist duties to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality service.
• Support management with staff coverage (e.g., call-outs, shift coverage, performance management) and provide coverage at multiple site locations.
• Take ownership of patient and employee issues, ensuring follow-through and problem resolution; act as a liaison between technical staff, other staff, and the Site Manager.
• In conjunction with the Site Manager, maintain adequate supply inventory levels at all times.
• Ensure quality assurance is consistently performed and accurately documented daily or as required within MQSA standards; report issues to the Site Manager and serve as a resource for mammography-related concerns.
• Stay current with federal and state standards and assist all sites with mammography ACR accreditation processes and FDA inspections.
• Assist with the orientation and training of new technologists, mammographers, and/or radiologic technologist assistants, including completion of all related paperwork.
• Monitor image quality within the department and address concerns with the Site Manager.
• Participate in and provide input for performance appraisals alongside the Site Manager.
• Model professionalism, flexibility, and high levels of patient care.
• Maintain general knowledge of equipment, its location, and vendors; inform the Site Manager of any equipment issues.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Demonstrate all skills required of a staff technologist and mammographer.
• Ability to perform mammography QA.
• Strong interpersonal skills to manage, organize, and motivate staff in alignment with corporate goals.
• Proven ability to handle increased responsibility.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a mammographer.
• Two (2) years of experience performing mammography QA under MQSA standards.

Physical Demands

• Walk and stand intermittently throughout the day.
• Lift and position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
• Assist with moving patients from scanner tables and transporting patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
• Crouch, reach, and lift to manipulate and position ancillary equipment.
• Exposure to high magnetic fields; must not have any physical conditions aggravated by magnetic fields, acoustic noise, or occasional RF exposure.
• Ability to work in Zone 3 and Zone 4.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Monday–Friday (day shift varies) at the Johnston, RI clinical site.
