About the Role
A Lead Instructor is responsible for teaching courses and assumes administrative responsibilities for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development. In situations where a program is newly implemented, being taught out, or has a smaller student population, the Lead Instructor provides leadership and oversight. They also collaborate with a Program Director when multiple campuses offer the same program or when a program is large enough to require both roles. The Lead Instructor reports to the Director of Education and serves as a subject matter expert in curriculum development, revision, and implementation.
Responsibilities
- Provides Services to Students
- Meets with first-term students during the drop/add period to address questions and validate their program choice.
- Advises students on scheduling and provides program-specific guidance.
- Supplements instructor advisement for students receiving failing mid-term reports.
- Provides academic advising and referrals to outside resources when needed.
- Arranges for student tutoring and leads retention initiatives for students facing barriers to success.
- Maintains regular contact with all students in the program and responds to questions or concerns promptly.
- Posts office hours for students and refers them to appropriate staff for non-academic issues.
- Participates in new student orientation and orients re-entering students.
- Contacts students who miss two consecutive days or exceed four absences in a term.
- Documents interactions with students in the Student Information System (CampusVue).
- Monitors instructor-student contact and follows up with students who were unreachable or did not return as promised.
- Serves as a sponsor for student clubs related to the program and encourages participation in professional organizations.
- Monitors extracurricular activities related to the program and identifies students needing tutoring.
- Ensures Instructional Materials, Equipment, and Facilities
- Serves as a subject matter expert for academic curriculum and participates in curriculum development/revision.
- Provides leadership in implementing new or revised curriculum.
- Assists with preparation for PAC meetings and presentations.
- Monitors classroom instructional materials, equipment, bulletin boards, and supplemental teaching aids.
- Provides input for creating the master schedule, including course sequencing, room assignments, and instructor teaching assignments.
- Assists in managing externship, student clinic, practicum, and related programs.
- Oversees Faculty Performance and Development
- Assists in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring faculty for the program.
- Evaluates faculty transcripts to determine course assignments.
- Orients, monitors, supervises, mentors, and assists new instructors.
- Ensures instructors adhere to administrative and classroom delivery requirements.
- Maintains faculty files, including transcripts, professional development, observations, and performance reviews.
- Provides leadership and support to full-time and part-time instructors.
- Observes classes and coaches instructors to improve instructional presentation and classroom management.
- Conducts performance appraisals for faculty, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
- Conducts regular faculty meetings to discuss course improvements, instructional methods, and other program enhancements.
- Documents all meetings and provides departmental product knowledge training to Admissions and Career Services.
- Promotes faculty participation in professional development activities and maintains records of these activities.
- Stays current with federal, state, institutional regulations, and accreditation standards related to the program.
- Assists in preparing government and accreditation reports and ensures their timely submission.
- Evaluates student questionnaire data and conducts faculty conferences to discuss results and recommendations.
- Maintains regular office hours to ensure consistency between day and evening policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with peers to coordinate interdepartmental activities and resolves personnel issues among instructors.
- Assists the Director of Education in planning program budgetary needs.

- Provides clearly defined roles and objectives for faculty, monitors performance, and provides feedback.
- Resolves individual and group performance issues to motivate and foster teamwork.
- Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments to advance skills and capabilities.
- Fulfills All Functions Required by Instructors
- Promotes and maintains a positive learning environment.
- Accurately and completely fulfills administrative responsibilities for the classroom.
- Manages the classroom/laboratory setting effectively.
- Delivers instruction using resources such as the Faculty Portal, Canvas, and others.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with Career Services to develop relationships with employers for externships, internships, and clinical/practicum experiences.
- Hires instructors for externship, internship, clinical, and practicum courses and ensures compliance with Delta’s policies.
- Shares program performance data and advisory board feedback with the CRC Academic team for continuous curriculum improvement.
- Identifies local advisory board members, establishes meeting agendas, hosts meetings, and documents outcomes.
Requirements
- Education requirement varies by field of instruction:
- At least 5 years of industry experience within the last 10 years.
- 2 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment.
- 2 years of industry experience in the field of instruction.
- Experience in a management or supervisory role.
- Ability to qualify as an instructor.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications and database programs (CampusVue preferred).
- Knowledge of federal Department of Education, state, local, and accreditation standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree.
- 5 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment.
- 10 years of experience in the field of instruction.
- Working knowledge of federal/state government education regulations.
- 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
- Previous experience as an academic program director.
- Experience in student guidance or a related field.
