Lead Veterinary Assistant

About the role

Campus Veterinary Clinic is seeking a Lead Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated team in Berkeley, California. We are a long-standing general practice hospital that values compassion, quality medicine, and community impact.

Responsibilities

• Room patients and assist veterinarians during examinations
• Surgical assisting, including proper equipment usage and patient restraint
• Draw blood and run bloodwork, including proper positioning
• Perform digital radiology (X-ray), including positioning
• Monitor general anesthesia and surgical assistance
• Perform venipuncture (cephalic, saphenous, and jugular)
• Use laboratory skills including microscope (ear and fecal cytology) and IDEXX in-house laboratory
• Adequately communicate and educate clients
• Handle and restrain animals effectively
• Accurately and thoroughly gather medical histories
• Perform basic exam procedures
• Work well with current doctors and team members

Requirements

• 3+ years clinical experience as a veterinary assistant or receptionist
• Knowledge of industry tools and equipment
• Passion for working with animals and their owners
• Experience with proper animal handling and restraint
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Comfortable with monitoring general anesthesia and surgical assistance (preferred)

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position starts at $26.00 - $32.00, which varies depending on experience, education, certifications, and location.
