Lead Technician, Power Systems Data Center

About the Role
The DC Lead Technician is responsible for performing and overseeing the assigned workload in the Power Systems Data Center ensuring completion of PM work to Western States’ and our clients standards, in order to meet or exceed the client’s needs. Repairs and processes are performed to satisfaction. As a “working lead” this role completes the preventative maintenance, diagnoses, repairs, disassembly, assembly, and failure analyses of all customer machines within the Data Center scope; with the opportunity in continued education and training initiatives as outlined in the Western States Equipment Technician Career Development Plan (TCDP).
Responsibilities
- Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. Ensures all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintains clean/clutter-free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
- Adheres to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policies of both WSECO and our clients.
- Acts as the primary contact between the technician team and the onsite contact, as well as between the technician team and the DC Foreman and Supervisor.
- Performs PM activities exactly to client expectation following the customer-supplied MOP. Takes full accountability for the team by signing off on customer-supplied MOP, indicating work has been completed fully.
- Performs all scheduled preventative maintenance services including fluid and filter replacement within time requirement guidelines.
- Operates equipment to ensure correct operation before and after all preventative maintenance.
- Performs load bank testing in accordance with client, state, and local specifications.
- Performs scheduled oil sampling (SOS) accurately and sends samples to the lab.
- Identifies potential safety problems on equipment through walk-around inspection and reports them to the supervisor and/or the customer.
- Uses web-based STW, SIS, and ET effectively to obtain machine specifications and performs all required tasks in accordance with procedures.
- Uses web-based SIS effectively and assists with parts orders required to complete repairs.
- Completes factual service reports, load bank reports, and inspection reports at the completion of each day.
- Communicates equipment issues and status of equipment to customer and supervisor.
- Adheres to all customer care standards.
- May accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States’ strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
- Works within and promotes corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to self-schedule and perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to quickly assess situations and make logical decisions.
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems.
- Ability to use SIS, Microsoft A/X, and ET.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others to include customers, vendors, employees, and the public.
- Ability to work overtime with minimal notice.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of proper fluid disposal and environmental practices.
- Ability to start and run power systems equipment.
- Ability to drive for long periods of time.
- Consistent attendance.
Qualifications
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Associates Degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school preferred.
- Two years minimum experience working on power systems equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of how to read schematics, troubleshoot, disassemble, assemble, remove, and install machine components and systems.
- Must have a current driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Minimum of one-year previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
Physical Characteristics
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, pushing, pulling, leaning, and twisting.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Safe Work Practice to include amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
