About the role
We are hiring a Lead Plant Operator to work at our Renewable Natural Gas facility as part of our operations department. This position reports to the Regional Manager and shares accountability for the day-to-day operations of the site, leading a small team with the goals of maximizing production, minimizing downtime, and ensuring safety, cleanliness, and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise all day-to-day activities in the facility, including coordinating maintenance tasks with management and operators.
- Schedule operators and plan outage events; work with third-party vendors to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Respond to callouts, manage the callout roster, and cover operator shifts when necessary.
- Tune and adjust the plant to meet production and efficiency needs while maintaining environmental compliance.
- Operate and monitor equipment such as blowers, gas pretreatment, chiller, CO₂ removal, N₂ removal, O₂ removal, and compression systems.
- Ensure operators maintain detailed records on production data, equipment operational hours, service schedules, and outages.
- Perform daily checks on operating equipment, including flow meters, gas chromatographs, fluid levels, pressure and temperature readings, and unusual noises to prevent failures.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs, such as oil and filter changes, belt replacements, valve adjustments, and compressor filter replacements.
- Participate in preventative maintenance outages and overhauls.
- Maintain cleanliness in and around the plant, including equipment, grounds, and floors.
- Manage on-site parts and supplies inventory, ensuring stock is well-organized.
- Respond to callouts promptly, diagnose and correct issues, and escalate to the plant manager if needed.
- Prioritize safety by addressing spills, hazards, and ensuring all personnel follow safe work practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in the renewable gas production industry (preferred).
- Strong recordkeeping and logging skills.
- General troubleshooting abilities and computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Good mechanical skills with basic electrical knowledge and troubleshooting experience.
- Self-motivated with the ability to perform tasks with little or no supervision.
- Working knowledge of pressure, vacuum, and flow systems.
- Experience with pumps, blowers, or air compressors.
- Heavy equipment operations experience (gas turbine & gas compressor O&M) is preferred.
- Fabrication and basic process knowledge.
- Current and valid driver’s license without restrictions.
