Job Summary

Under the supervision of the School Leader, is responsible for the total classroom operation per Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and leads the classroom while collaborating with the Teaching Assistant in planning and execution of daily classroom activities.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and is responsible for using agency-wide curriculum as well as the Head Start Program Performance Standards, program assessment, and service plans.
  • Administers Ages and Stages Questionnaires for initial developmental screening.
  • Utilizes Curriculum software to track each child’s ongoing developmental skill level in the domains as required by the HSPPS.
  • Utilizes CAP-selected classroom support model to assist with classroom management.
  • Works cooperatively with all CAP employees, Family Support personnel, Parents, Volunteers and collaborative partners.
  • Conducts at least two home visits and two parent conferences, per child, within the allotted time period.
  • Participates in Family Child Review meetings, Multidisciplinary Teams, Crisis Intervention teams, etc. as required.
  • Develops a daily schedule and weekly lesson plans based on observations, parental input, and developmentally appropriate practice.
  • Develops goals utilizing the individualization form to meet each child’s developmental needs.
  • Completes required documentation including, but not limited to: Monthly Reports, Attendance, Meal Count, Family Contacts, and Child Injury Reports.
  • Maintains compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, NAEYC accreditation standards and DHS licensing requirements.
  • Implements intervention tools and practices for students with Challenging Behaviors.

Requirements

  • 4-year-old Classroom: State of Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood
  • 3-Year-Old Classroom: State of Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or Higher) in Early Childhood Education or a Related Degree.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Prominent interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
  • Able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
  • Able to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc.
  • Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis.

Essential Physical & Mental Requirements

  • This is a classroom position that requires active supervision, requiring focused attention to look, listen, and engage with young children.
  • Work requires frequent bending, stooping, lifting, squatting, kneeling, crawling, stretching, pushing, and pulling throughout the day.
  • Must have the ability to lift and/or carry objects and children weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and quickly respond to children’s needs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
