Lead Systems Integration Engineer
TEC2212T4 – Leidos is seeking a Systems Integration & Test Engineer to join a dynamic team on the Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) program. TFDM is a system designed to improve aircraft runway and terminal congestion, addressing nationwide air traffic inefficiencies. As the FAA’s NextGen surface management solution, TFDM integrates surface traffic control and management to enhance operations in the National Airspace System (NAS).
About the role
The Systems Integration & Test Engineer will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure system readiness, execute test procedures, and verify operational performance in the NAS. The role involves collaboration with FAA and Leidos personnel, debugging system-level issues, and supporting formal test execution with customers and quality assurance organizations. Travel is required (25% of the time).
Responsibilities
- Perform testing in physical and virtual test labs to ensure system, test procedures, and inputs are prepared for execution with the customer.
- Execute procedures verifying system configuration and operational readiness in the NAS.
- Coordinate activities, communication, and planning with FAA and Leidos personnel.
- Debug system-level issues and provide detailed supporting data.
- Understand system-level requirements and perform system interface checkouts.
- Provide guidance to test team members and ensure program milestones are met.
- Execute remote support commands (ILE/Networking) and troubleshoot issues.
- Analyze issues with System Engineering and Software teams to develop solutions.
- Develop automated solutions to streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Learn system architecture, design, functions, and capabilities to support integration and testing of new enhancements.
- Collaborate with the TFDM system engineering team to develop test approaches for new and modified requirements.
- Conduct testing at Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCT) in operational conditions with the FAA customer when required.
- Perform formal test execution with the customer and quality assurance organizations.
- Troubleshoot XML data, network configurations, IP addresses, JMS queue configurations, and connection issues.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate testing, script automation, and test creation.
- Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs.
- Demonstrate test execution to the FAA for customer acceptance per release.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (or equivalent experience/combined education) with 6+ years of professional experience, or 4+ years with a related Master’s degree.
- Ability to obtain an SF-85P Public Trust clearance from the FAA.
- Strong experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems and troubleshooting network configurations.
- Expertise in scripting (Python, shell scripting) for data processing, analysis, and system integration.
- Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, automation, or intelligent platforms.
- Experience following a documented Integration and Test Development Process.
- Hands-on experience integrating large, complex software systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with internal and external customers.
- Willingness to collaborate with the FAA customer on-site to build system knowledge.

- Academic understanding or exposure to system engineering practices, including requirements engineering, operational analysis, and systems definition.
- FAA Air Traffic Domain knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate formal test events.
- Knowledge of interfacing systems in the NAS, such as FDIO, STARS, TBFM, and ASDE-X.
Pay
Pay Range: $87,100.00 – $157,450.00. The Leidos pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable bargaining agreements or laws.
