Lead Surgical Services Technician (Certified) - Surgery - Full Time 8 Hours Days (6:45AM to 3:15PM) (Union, Non-Exempt)

About the role
Lead Surgical Services Technician (Certified) acting as a procedural specialist who leads the staff in the delivery of care consistent with quality standards. Serves as a clinical expert and resource for staff, especially within their specialty. Provides input for assignment planning and patient scheduling to ensure equitable distribution of patient needs and staff competencies. Facilitates problem-solving, promotes communication, and collaborates with staff and physicians to achieve goals. Works closely with surgeons to create, update, and maintain surgeon preference cards and custom pack contents, communicating updates to staff on an ongoing basis. Ensures completeness and availability of supplies for specialty instrumentation and equipment, collaborating with Materials Management, vendors, and Sterile Processing Department to meet patient needs. Demonstrates investment in the unit’s and organization’s forward movement.
Responsibilities
- Accountable to the unit Manager and/or Director of the department.
- Proficient in the essential job functions and responsibilities of a surgical technician.
- Provides input on staffing assignments to ensure equitable distribution of patient needs and staff competencies.
- Collaborates with physicians on introducing new procedures to the operating room.
- Ensures completeness and availability of supplies, special instrumentation sets, and equipment for the surgical schedule; monitors and follows through with Materials Management, vendors, and Sterile Processing Department.
- Acts as a clinical resource for staff, providing assistance and support in the OR.
- Mentors and assists in the clinical orientation of staff to their specialty.
- Assists staff in problem-solving and addressing physician complaints or needs.
- Oversees tasks and functions of other licensed and unlicensed personnel as needed.
- Coordinates and prioritizes clinical and operational activities to promote smooth workflow.
- Communicates important problems and issues to the charge RN, manager, and director.
- Maintains and promotes a clean, neat, and organized environment for specialty carts and supplies.
- Fosters a positive learning/working environment to promote staff satisfaction.
- Provides ongoing updates and training to all staff members in the operating room.
- Promotes unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and working relationships.
- Participates in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, and quality planning activities.
- Detects and provides solutions for scheduling oversights.
- Works closely with surgeons to create, update, and maintain surgeon preference cards and custom pack contents.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Four to five years of current experience as a surgical technician (required).
- Previous Lead Surgical Technician experience (preferred).
- Basic Life Support certification (required).
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) (required).
Pay
The hourly rate range for this position is $34.32 - $56.19.
