Position Summary

To be fully engaged in providing Uncompromised Safety, Superior Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences and Financial Stewardship by providing clean, sterile instruments for surgical procedures; maintaining a clean, organized instrument storage area; maintaining accurate sterilization records and monitoring performance of CS Techs for quality and efficiency. The Central Services Lead Tech oversees department operations when the Supervisor is absent.

Primary Accountabilities

Quality/No Harm:

  • Maintains accurate records including: biological indicators / sterilization records
  • Has operational knowledge (automatic and manual) of steam sterilizers
  • Maintains overall safe operations of the shift
  • Performs decontamination, assembly, wrapping, and sterilizing functions of instrumentation to meet daily case schedule at assigned facility as based on reported errors and/or instances of instruments not ready for case
  • Performs necessary housekeeping and stocking duties within the department including; maintaining a clean and organized instrument room, cleaning sterilizers on a regular basis
  • Demonstrates initiative combined with rapidity and accuracy with preparing supplies and instruments within a limited time frame
  • Supports training and education of department
  • Participates in and supports in-service programs and/or staff meetings
  • Reviews department Performance measures and educates shift associates to meet goals

Customer Experience:

  • Communicates effectively and discreetly with all team members to ensure efficient patient care through proper use of surgical equipment and supplies
  • Ensures associates treat all customers according to I-CARE values
  • Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report

Stewardship:

  • Monitors performance of teammates for quality and efficiency; assigns working hours and locations for optimum utilization of personnel; contributes to their performance evaluations
  • Ensures that CS has adequate staffing for each shift
  • Uses Health First department resources appropriately

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be able to read and write in the English language for effective communication
  • CBSPD/IAHCSMM certification preferred

Physical Demands

  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to use computers and Central Service Equipment
  • Good physical condition and without assistance must be able to lift, push, or move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for 90% of assigned shift

Mental Demands

  • Ability to display and promote elements of good service
  • Ability to listen well and analyze needs from various ages and levels of education
  • Ability to access, interpret data and educate members of the healthcare team, patients, and significant others of various ages
  • Ability to concentrate on multi-priority activities

Full-Time

Shift Times: 3:00pm - 11:00pm
