Lead Sterile Processing Technician

Serves as shift charge person

Serves as shift charge person in the absence of department leadership, prioritizing work to ensure instrumentation and equipment availability.

Ensures safety

  • Maintains safe work practices for all employees
  • Makes sure staff use personal protective equipment (PPE) in decontamination area
  • Takes appropriate action in emergency situations

Supports new employees

  • Participates in new employee orientation
  • On-the-job training
  • In-service education
  • Facilitates facility process improvement initiatives

Oversees inventory

  • Monitors supply and equipment inventory required for the department
  • Rotates assignments among various areas within the department

Operates and manages equipment

  • Operates complex sterilization equipment
  • Selects the correct method of sterilization based on IFU
  • Utilizes recall process for sterilization failures
  • Notifies leadership of positive results

Maintains infection control

  • Maintains infection control standards
  • Ensures daily cleaning
  • Takes corrective action for environmental controls

Manages equipment

  • Identifies and resolves issues associated with malfunctioning equipment
  • Responds to problem calls from all customers
  • Communicates professionally with hospital team members

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Flexible schedule including nights and weekends
  • Knowledge of all Central Sterile equipment and supplies
  • Instrumentation and processing procedures
  • Able to articulate HSPA Standards and Guidelines
  • Trains new staff in department job responsibilities and protocols
  • Maintains appropriate inventory management
  • Previous management experience
  • Strong background in all areas of Central Supply
  • Ability to demonstrate organization's mission and values
  • Supervisory skills in case of absence of supervisor/manager

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical/vocational school preferred
  • Field of study: N/A
  • 1+ years of experience preferred
