Responsibilities
- Serves as shift charge person in the absence of department leadership, prioritizing work to ensure instrumentation and equipment availability.
- Ensures safe work practices for all employees, monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination area, and takes appropriate action in emergency situations.
- Participates in new employee orientation, on-the-job training, in-service education, and facility process improvement initiatives.
- Oversees and monitors supply and equipment inventory required for the department.
- Rotates assignments among various areas within the department, including decontamination, surgical tray assembly, sterilization processes, and equipment management.
Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and medical terminology
- Ability to understand the needs of the customer and respond in a pro-active, courteous, professional, and efficient manner
- Ability to adapt to change and work in an environment that requires flexibility
- Ability to lead others and work under stress and tight deadlines
- Understanding of microbiology, aseptic principles and techniques, and infection control
- Knowledge of prevention of cross-contamination and the critical nature of nosocomial infections
- Knowledge of instrument tracking software and related computer skills
- Able to articulate the HSPA Standards and Guidelines
- Ability to effectively train new staff in department job responsibilities and protocols
- Ability to maintain appropriate inventory management
- Serves as the primary point of contact for OR for instrument issues
- Previous management skills
- Strong background in all areas of Central Supply
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher [Preferred]
- High School Diploma or equivalent [Required]
- 1+ years of experience [Preferred]
Skills
- Knowledge of all Central Sterile equipment and supplies
- Knowledge of all instrumentation and processing procedures
- Able to articulate the HSPA Standards and Guidelines
- Ability to perform as Supervisor in the event of Supervisor/Manager absence
