Responsibilities

  • Serves as shift charge person in the absence of department leadership, prioritizing work to ensure instrumentation and equipment availability.
  • Ensures safe work practices for all employees, monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination area, and takes appropriate action in emergency situations.
  • Participates in new employee orientation, on-the-job training, in-service education, and facility process improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees and monitors supply and equipment inventory required for the department.
  • Rotates assignments among various areas within the department, including decontamination, surgical tray assembly, sterilization processes, and equipment management.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and medical terminology
  • Ability to understand the needs of the customer and respond in a pro-active, courteous, professional, and efficient manner
  • Ability to adapt to change and work in an environment that requires flexibility
  • Ability to lead others and work under stress and tight deadlines
  • Understanding of microbiology, aseptic principles and techniques, and infection control
  • Knowledge of prevention of cross-contamination and the critical nature of nosocomial infections
  • Knowledge of instrument tracking software and related computer skills
  • Able to articulate the HSPA Standards and Guidelines
  • Ability to effectively train new staff in department job responsibilities and protocols
  • Ability to maintain appropriate inventory management
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for OR for instrument issues
  • Previous management skills
  • Strong background in all areas of Central Supply

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher [Preferred]
  • High School Diploma or equivalent [Required]
  • 1+ years of experience [Preferred]

Skills

  • Knowledge of all Central Sterile equipment and supplies
  • Knowledge of all instrumentation and processing procedures
  • Able to articulate the HSPA Standards and Guidelines
  • Ability to perform as Supervisor in the event of Supervisor/Manager absence
