Role and Scope of Position

Will contribute in a multitude of ways, from architecting phenomenal systems, creating, and encouraging good software development practices engineering-wide, driving strategic technical improvements, and mentoring other engineers. A Lead Software Engineer is also responsible for developing, maintaining, and repairing company software for maximum efficiency and usability.

Essential Functions

  • Implements functional strategy.

  • Recognized master within discipline, having deep knowledge of theory and organizational practices within a specific discipline.
  • Develops and implements new products, processes, standards, or operational plans that will have impact on the achievement of functional results.
  • Owns and develops elements of functional strategies and operational goals in area of expertise.
  • Focuses on operational plans with short to medium-term impact on the organization (e.g., 1 – 2 years).
  • Directs activities that have significant impact to the achievement of results for the discipline.
  • Recommends and implements new products, processes, policies, standards, or operating plans in support of the functional strategy.
  • Conducts extensive investigation to understand root cause of problems.
  • Works with key stakeholders effectively to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Sets and communicates clear expectations and goals.
  • Works to influence others to accept job function’s view / practices and agree / accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Communicates with parties within and outside of own function, and typically has responsibilities for communicating with parties external to the organization, (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.).

Has a broad understanding of ES and project architectures and how their domain fits within it. Systematically thinks through potential design impacts on other teams and the company. Identifies and advocate for foundational work and practice improvements in their domain. Convinces others about technical tradeoffs and decisions. Coaches and helps teammates prioritize. Help others maintain resilience in periods of change. Avoids monolithic deliverables and breaks down complex tasks quickly. Tackles tech debt proactively. Writes insightful documentation. Builds consensus for decisions. Helps define roadmaps and set vision for long-term projects.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of related experience Requires expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have deep knowledge of project management. Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and ability to identify links and potential impact on projects, programs or systems

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
