What You'll Do
We are seeking an experienced SAP Human Resources (HR) Technical Lead to oversee the design, development, and support of HR solutions within our SAP ECC 6.0 environment, with a primary focus on Benefits, Compensation, and Pension-related processes. This role will lead a small team of developers while acting as the primary interface between Information Technology and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and support of SAP HR solutions within SAP ECC 6.0, with a strong emphasis on custom ABAP development
- Oversee and mentor a small team of developers, following development standards and best practices
- Act as the primary interface between IT and business stakeholders for HR-related initiatives
- Design, build, and maintain ABAP solutions supporting Benefits, Compensation, and Pension processes
- Develop complex reports, interfaces, enhancements, and data processing programs to support HR operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including deep debugging across HR and integrated modules
- Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of custom-developed solutions
- Support and enhance integrations with external vendors and internal systems
- Provide technical design leadership, including code reviews and architectural guidance
- Collaborate with functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions
- Maintain documentation for custom development, system architecture, and support procedures

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience; OR
- Master’s degree in the same fields with at least 3 years of relevant experience; OR
- Alternatively, 13+ years of progressive education, training, and/or professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal degree requirements.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on SAP HCM experience with a strong focus on technical development
- Advanced ABAP development experience in SAP ECC environments
- Prior experience in a technical lead or team leadership role
- Demonstrated experience partnering with business stakeholders to design and deliver solutions
SAP HR Functional Expertise
- Strong experience with SAP ECC 6.0 HCM modules, particularly Benefits, Compensation, and Pension
- Experience supporting benefits administration, eligibility, and enrollment processes
- Understanding of compensation structures, incentive programs, and pay adjustments
- Familiarity with pension or retirement plan administration processes
- Working knowledge of core HR infotypes and organizational management
Technical & Development Skills (Primary Focus)
- Expert-level ABAP development skills, including complex reports, interfaces, enhancements, conversions, and forms
- Extensive experience with BADIs, user exits, implicit/explicit enhancements, and custom frameworks
- Strong debugging skills across HR modules, including payroll and benefits-related processing
- Deep understanding of SAP HCM data structures (infotypes, clusters, logical databases such as PNP/PNPCE)
- Experience designing and supporting inbound/outbound interfaces with external vendors (benefits providers, pension systems, etc.)
- Experience with performance optimization and managing large-volume HR data processing
Architecture & Solution Design
- Ability to design scalable custom solutions in highly customized SAP environments
- Experience translating complex HR policies and business rules into technical designs and implementations
- Familiarity with SAP workflows, enhancements, and automation strategies
Leadership & Delivery
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a small team of developers in a custom development-heavy environment
- Experience managing a mix of enhancement delivery, production support, and technical debt reduction
- Strong ownership mindset for system quality, performance, and long-term maintainability
Collaboration & Communication
- Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to non-technical HR stakeholders
- Experience working closely with HR, Benefits, and Finance teams
- Strong documentation and knowledge transfer practices
