Lead Software Engineer, Full Stack ( Cloud Native, Microservices & AWS) ( Enterprise Platforms Technology)

As a Lead Software Engineer in Enterprise Platforms Technology (EPTech), you’ll drive a major transformation within Capital One. EPTech comprises many of the company’s most important enterprise platforms, establishing practices for building technology solutions while delivering capabilities that exemplify those practices.
The Developer Experience team focuses on building internal tools and platforms that empower engineers to work faster, smarter, and more effectively. The team develops solutions for Claude Code integrations, skills marketplaces, and AI-powered workflows that reduce friction and accelerate software delivery, directly improving engineering productivity, code quality, and the overall developer experience at scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices and full-stack systems to create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
- Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal and external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community.
- Collaborate with digital product managers and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment.
- Utilize programming languages like JavaScript, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
- Work with Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- At least 4 years of experience in software engineering (internship experience does not apply).
- At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
Qualifications
- Master's Degree.
- 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
- 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS.
- 2+ years of experience in Docker.
- 2+ years of experience in Claude Code, GitHub, or Copilot.
- Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion.

Pay
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below by location:
- McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100 for Lead Software Engineer.
- San Francisco, CA: $215,200 - $245,600 for Lead Software Engineer.
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on the agreed-upon number of hours to be regularly worked. This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI).
