Lead Software Engineer - Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose)

About the role

As an Android Software Engineer you will work on the iOS and Android platforms—key channels for delivering personalized, engaging experiences across a variety of devices, including watches, TVs, and future mobile innovations. Engineers receive top‑of‑the‑line MacBook Pros, multiple high‑resolution monitors, and the tooling needed to develop high‑quality products with minimal friction. Teams operate in small, productive agile squads and use industry‑leading collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop Android client code solutions that align with product strategy and follow established engineering best practices, design guidelines, and principles.
• Partner with software engineers, UX/UI designers, quality engineers, and product owners/analysts to deliver high‑performing, purposeful customer experiences.
• Actively participate in all team agile ceremonies, ensuring commitments are delivered on time and with the highest quality.
• Advocate for the mobile platform within internal and external developer communities.
• Continuously learn and apply technologies related to mobile development (Kotlin, Swift, third‑party libraries, etc.).
• Influence group discussions, incorporate feedback, and communicate effectively across the broader team.
• Mentor junior to mid‑level team members.
• Engage with developers outside the local sprint team across Android, iOS, APIs, Web, and other disciplines.
• Own and lead delivery of major components and platform needs in partnership with senior engineers and architects.
• Share best practices and improve processes within and across sprint teams.
• Identify technical obstacles early and collaborate to find creative solutions.
• Review pull requests and ensure adherence to Kotlin and other language idioms.
• Provide subject‑matter‑expert leadership.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience (internship experience does not apply).
• At least 3 years of experience building Android applications.
• At least 3 years of experience with Kotlin.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• 5+ years of experience building Android applications.
• 4+ years of experience with Kotlin.
• 2+ years of experience with JetPack Compose.
• 4+ years of experience in open‑source frameworks.
• 2+ years of experience with Agile practices.
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion.

Pay

McLean, VA: $197,300 – $225,100 for Lead Software Engineer. Candidates hired in other locations will receive the pay range associated with that location. The role is eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives.
