About the role

Join our dedicated Dock Specialist team in Unity Lab Services, where we ensure seamless logistics and support tailored to our customers' unique needs. We’re seeking an organized Dock Specialist to manage shipping and receiving operations. You'll be the point of contact for customers and carriers, ensuring compliance and efficiency in all dock and shipping activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the shipment of materials to other sites and collaborators, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Prepare and review shipping documents, including bills of lading, shipping labels, and customs documentation, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proper coordination and execution of shipments.
  • Communicate with internal and external partners, including freight forwarders and carriers, to schedule and track shipments, ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of all shipments, including tracking numbers, delivery confirmations, and any relevant documentation.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of shipping supplies, such as boxes, labels, and packing materials, ensuring adequate stock is maintained.
  • Identify and resolve any issues or delays in the shipping process, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to find timely solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant shipping regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of shipping-related policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to management on shipping activities, including metrics, performance, and any potential risks or opportunities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of work experience in material handling: warehousing, shipping, and/or receiving is required.
  • Experience as a Shipping Coordinator or similar role, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping regulations, including domestic and international requirements, customs procedures, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Proven record of leading and mentoring teams, with experience in guiding peers.
  • DOT/IATA Certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Proficient in using shipping software and systems, such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL, to schedule and track shipments.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a safety-first approach.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting shipping labels (DOT labeling), with the ability to be trained in the operation of pallet jacks and lift gates.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy packages, as required (regular lifting of 30-40 lbs, up to 50 lbs occasionally).

Environmental Conditions

  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards.
  • Cold Room/Freezers -22°F/-6°C.
  • Fluctuating temperatures (hot/cold).
  • Laboratory setting.
  • Loud noises (equipment/machinery).
  • Rapid flashing lights.
  • Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).
  • Standing for full shift.
  • Strong odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products, etc.).
  • Warehouse environment.
  • Will work with hazardous/toxic materials.
  • Primarily involves working independently at customer sites, which may include areas with chemical-based allergens like penicillin and tetracycline.
  • Regular use of equipment like pushcarts and forklifts to move up to 100 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and bending, sometimes in varied temperature environments.
  • Overtime work may be necessary.

Pay

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $21.76–$28.30. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
