Responsibilities
This position oversees two Shelter Program Assistant positions. Additionally, the Lead Shelter Program Assistant is responsible for brokering community housing solution resources with guests, conducting assessments, general administrative tasks, and maintaining cleanliness of the Center. The position maintains professional relationships and clear communication with guests receiving services and community agencies providing services. The position requires regular direct services and careful documentation in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Oversee day shelter operations
- Supervise, support, and lead the Shelter Program Assistant Team
- Provide backup coverage as needed
- Work with people experiencing homelessness during shelter hours to provide a welcoming shelter environment, ensuring guest and staff safety, and providing guests with appropriate resources
- Work closely with other agencies to coordinate care for guests
- Ensure daily services are entered into HMIS
- Maintain documentation in compliance with agency, state, and federal requirements, including HMIS data entry
- Complete intakes and assessments
- Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to address guest concerns and mitigate conflict
- Perform routine administrative tasks
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and professionalism of the Shelter
- Maintain good working relationships with neighboring businesses
- Perform inventory of shelter supplies and ordering as necessary
- Pick up food for shelter guests at Food Bank as needed
- Assist with regular operations as needed, including occasional evening hours to assist guests at the overnight shelter, and potential weekend hours in the event of expanded day shelter coverage due to extreme weather
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or 2 years’ equivalent experience providing homeless services, case management, social work, health/human services, public health, or related nonprofit field
- Experience and willingness to work with highly vulnerable individuals and/or people experiencing homelessness
- Supervisory experience preferred

- Satisfactory written communication skills
- Organizational skills, detail-oriented, attention to deadlines
- Ability to multi-task with constantly changing priorities and excellent follow-through
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Familiarity with Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), or comparable data tracking tool helpful
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred
Compensation
- Full-time: Medical - HMO & HSA, FSA - Dependent Care & Health Care, Dental, Vision, Optional plans through Aflac Insurance, Employer paid life and accidental insurance
- Full-time: Leave - 13 or more paid holidays, Vacation leave accrues at 160 hours per year starting after 3 months of employment, Sick leave accrues approximately 69.3 hours per year and starts to accrue immediately, Leave from bereavement and jury duty as needed, FAMLI leave – plus additional coverage depending on length of service
- Part-Time: Leave - 13 or more paid holidays, Vacation leave accrues at a prorated rate: 20 hours accrues approximately at 80 hours per year starting after 3 months of employment, 30 hours accrues approximately at 120 hours per year starting after 3 months of employment, Sick leave accrues at a prorated rate: 20 hours accrues approximately 34 hours per year and starts to accrue immediately, 30 hours accrues approximately 52 hours per year and starts to accrue immediately, Leave for bereavement and jury duty as needed, FAMLI leave – plus additional coverage depending on length of service
