What You’ll Do
- Manage the profitability, growth, and overall performance of an assigned Personal Lines territory, monitoring results and reporting key metrics.
- Evaluate, accept, modify, or decline complex and high-value Personal Lines risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines, policy forms, and rating requirements.
- Analyze applications, inspections, claims history, financial information, and other risk data to assess exposures and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Research coverage questions and recommend solutions that align with company guidelines and profitability goals. Refer risks that exceed authority levels to underwriting leadership and provide recommendations for consideration.
- Collaborate with Claims, Marketing, agencies, and other business partners to address underwriting issues, claims trends, coverage questions, and customer concerns.
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor, providing guidance and support to underwriting team members.
- Build and maintain strong agency relationships through regular communication, meetings, agency visits, and occasional travel.
- Participate in special projects, agency development initiatives, and other initiatives that support Personal Lines underwriting objectives.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of Personal Lines underwriting experience with demonstrated success in evaluating and managing routine to complex risks.
- Proven ability to analyze risk exposures and make sound underwriting decisions within established authority levels.
- Strong understanding of portfolio management, profitability, catastrophe exposure analysis, claims trends, and book-of-business performance.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with agencies, internal business partners, and customers.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Able and willing to travel periodically for agency visits, meetings, conferences, and training (20-25% of the time).
Preferred Qualifications
- CPCU, AU, AINS, API, or other insurance-related professional designation.
- Prior experience serving as a lead underwriter, mentor, team lead, or subject matter expert.
- Experience participating in underwriting projects, agency reviews, re-underwrites, training initiatives, or process improvement efforts.
