Lead Respiratory Therapist

About the role

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare is dedicated to medical rehabilitation, focusing on helping patients achieve the highest levels of function and independence. We are seeking an experienced Lead Respiratory Therapist to lead and mentor our Respiratory Care team.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and serve as a resource for the Respiratory Care team
• Coordinate daily staffing assignments and manage departmental scheduling
• Balance workloads based on patient acuity and operational needs
• Mentor, train, and onboard new Respiratory Therapists
• Develop and oversee annual staff competencies and continuing education
• Oversee Blood Gas Laboratory quality assurance, regulatory compliance, competency validation, and proficiency testing
• Maintain inspection-ready standards for respiratory equipment and department operations
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams to support outstanding patient care
• Aid in policy development, operational improvements, and departmental initiatives
• Provide input for staff performance evaluations and support department leadership as needed

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited program (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
• Current Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications
• Minimum of five years of clinical respiratory care experience
• Strong airway management and intubation skills
• Experience performing and interpreting arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or a related biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications
• Previous leadership, preceptor, educator, or supervisory experience
