Responsibilities
- Performs and documents patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
- Conducts diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
- Administers respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Assists with placement of artificial airways.
- Initiates, monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilation.
- Maintains airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.
- Assists with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
- Responds to emergent patient situations.
- Instructs patient and family members about patient condition and proper methods of respiratory therapy.
- Serves as a clinical resource.
- Provides or assists in direct care when appropriate to complex patients.
- Consults with physicians and other healthcare providers to communicate patient progress.
- Facilitates needed repairs and preventive maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment.
- Performs a variety of duties related to setting up, operating, cleaning, sterilizing, and storing respiratory therapy equipment.
Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
- (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner.
- Associate Degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
