About the role

Vinfen is a nonprofit organization providing community-based services to individuals with mental health conditions, intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain injuries, and behavioral health challenges. As a Lead Residential Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals to build independence and enhance their quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and documents treatment plans including ISP/IPs and clinical programs.
  • Provides training and support to individuals served, including rehabilitative interventions, behavioral interventions, and monitoring.
  • Assists individuals in becoming fully integrated into their communities, including planning recreational and social activities.
  • Assists residents with community-based support and resource services, including transportation to appointments and outings.
  • Maintains records for individuals served, collects behavior and academic data, and documents all information related to incidents, programs, and routine activities.
  • Administers medication according to the Medication Administration Plan (MAC) and ensures compliance with MAC requirements, funding source regulations, and company policy.
  • Communicates with and provides information to interested parties such as program nurse, funding agency, case managers, and other service providers.
  • Participates in all mandated training and staff meetings as directed by manager.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff and ensures compliance with all internal and external regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains program site safety and maintenance, including general housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal.
  • Complies with all corporate and divisional policies and procedures, including safe work practices, workers’ compensation, universal precautions, and exposure control.
  • Completes various paperwork and logs, including communication logs, community membership logs, chore schedules, timesheets, and application forms.
  • Ensures required staff-to-consumer ratios are maintained at all times and performs last-minute coverage as required.
  • Serves as a human rights advocate and provides physical intervention and/or first aid in emergencies.
  • Serves as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission and maintains required certifications.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a Residential Counselor role.
  • Demonstrated track record as an exceptional performer and team-player while in the Residential Counselor role.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Driving is a requirement for this position, using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle.
  • A valid driver's license is required, and incumbents must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be able to pass a driver's screening background check.
  • CPR, First Aid, and MAC certifications are required within two weeks of hire.
