Lead Residential Counselor (Developmental Services)
About the role
Vinfen is a nonprofit, health and human services organization providing community-based services to individuals with mental health conditions, intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain injuries, and behavioral health challenges. As a Lead Residential Counselor, you will provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a small group residential setting or an individual living arrangement. Your responsibilities include administering medication, implementing treatment plans, assisting with activities of daily living, and promoting independence and social inclusion.
Responsibilities
- Aid individuals in becoming fully integrated into their communities and developing friendships.
- Afford individuals access to community-based support and resources.
- Plan recreational and social activities to promote emotional well-being and social inclusion.
- Empower and support individuals to make choices, be self-advocates, and participate in decision-making.
- Support individuals in accessing assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance communication and independence.
- Encourage and support individuals in securing, maintaining, and growing in work, volunteer, and community engagement opportunities.
- Assist individuals in becoming more independent, self-advocates, and defining their vision for living a good life.
- Maintain strong partnerships with families and other interested parties.
- Provide administrative support to the Program Director, including scheduling staff, training new staff, and overseeing clinical paperwork.
- Lead shift management and clinical programming, develop, implement, and document treatment plans, and provide training to individuals.
- Perform hands-on tasks, ensure home safety, and comply with regulatory policies and procedures.
- Communicate with interested parties, such as program nurses, case managers, and Visiting Nurses Association.
- Participate in training and staff meetings, assist with staff orientation, and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provide shift coverage and maintain required staff-to-client ratios.
- Function as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention and/or first aid in emergencies.
- Report to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- One to two years of experience/training in a related field.
- Knowledge and use of advocacy techniques.
- Knowledge and proven ability to promote family partnerships.
- Knowledge and proven ability to promote social inclusion in a way that supports individual choices.
- Knowledge and proven ability to promote ability to implement PBS treatment programs.
- Knowledge of participatory planning techniques.
- Knowledge of required physical and household management skills.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
