About the role

Vinfen is a nonprofit organization offering community-based services to individuals with various disabilities and challenges. The Residential Counselor - DSD position involves supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in small group residential settings or individual arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Aid individuals in integrating into their communities and fostering friendships.
  • Support individuals in accessing community-based resources and organizing social activities.
  • Empower individuals to make choices and advocate for themselves.
  • Assist with the use of assistive technology and equipment to enhance independence.
  • Encourage participation in work, volunteer, and community activities.
  • Provide training and support in various areas including rehabilitation, behavior management, and daily living skills.
  • Perform hands-on tasks to implement support plans.
  • Provide transportation services as needed.
  • Monitor and report on the physical and emotional status of individuals.
  • Manage and document individual finances.
  • Collect and maintain behavior and academic data.
  • Document incidents, programs, and routine activities.
  • Administer and document medication according to the Medication Administration Plan (MAP).
  • Communicate with relevant parties and participate in training sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory policies and perform regular safety checks.
  • Complete various paperwork and logs.
  • Provide shift coverage and act as a human rights advocate.
  • Provide physical intervention and first aid in emergencies.
  • Report to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans including Individual Service Plans (ISP) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS) plans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities and/or brain injury.
  • Strong time management and writing skills.
  • At least 21 years old and hold a valid US driver's license for at least 6 months.
  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and MAP certifications within specified periods.
  • Pass a CORI, reference, and driving record check.
  • Knowledge of advocacy, empowerment, and self-advocacy techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Physical stamina to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
