Responsibilities
As a Lead Research Engineer, you will:
- Lead technical workstreams within a software engineering organization.
- Drive innovation throughout the entire software lifecycle, from specification to maintenance.
- Collaborate with research scientists to evaluate, prototype, and productionize research concepts.
- Implement machine learning systems and capabilities in production environments.
- Ensure clean, reusable, and maintainable code, and contribute to the translation between research and engineering fields.
- Integrate machine learning solutions into production-grade software, with a focus on ModelOps and MLOps principles.
- Have hands-on experience in programming languages such as Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, and others.
- Be proficient in system analysis and design, and embrace DevOps and automation.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience, preferably in machine learning and natural language processing.
- Experience leading technical workstreams within a software engineering organization.
- Deep understanding of Python software development stacks and ecosystems, and proficiency in other programming languages.
- Strong background in machine learning systems and capabilities in production environments.
- Familiarity with the Python data science stack and libraries such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, scikit-learn, PyTorch.
- Experience collaborating with research scientists and evaluating, prototyping, and productionizing research concepts.
- Proficiency in automation, system monitoring, and cloud-native applications, with familiarity in AWS or Azure.
- Experience in system analysis and design, and a strong commitment to DevOps and automation.
- Desire to learn and embrace new and emerging technologies.
- Familiarity with probabilistic models and understanding of the mathematical concepts underlying machine learning methods.
- Experience mentoring engineers and elevating team technical practices.
- Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) problems, including Named Entity Recognition (NER), Information Extraction, Information Retrieval, etc.

To qualify for this role, you should:

Pay
The base compensation range for this role varies by location, ranging from $127,400 USD - $236,600 USD in the United States and $140,000 CAD - $175,000 CAD in Ontario, Canada.
