Job Overview

The Related and Instructional Services, Lead will assist in the supervision of related and instructional services staff to ensure compliance with federal and state laws as well as local operating guidelines as they apply to the evaluation and identification of students with disabilities. The incumbent will monitor compliance with regulations as stated in the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act (IDEA).

Position Description

  • Oversee and monitor Full Individual Evaluations and other appropriate evaluations conducted by evaluation staff as required by IDEA
  • Assist in the planning of professional development for evaluation staff
  • Work in collaboration with the other assessment leads to develop and monitor assessment teams and district procedures
  • Provide consultation for recommendations regarding eligibility, services and placement of students with disabilities
  • Maintain thorough and up to date knowledge of all applicable laws and make recommendations for appropriate changes to departmental operating guidelines/procedures
  • Gather and analyze data as needed for local, state and federal programs
  • Assist in hiring of assigned staff (including but not limited to MTs, OTs, and PTs) to ensure that all campuses have adequate coverage
  • Attend all district meetings as assigned
  • Assign staff and monitor provision of In-Home Training (IHT) services
  • Review and process IEE parent requests
  • Maintain accurate database of early childhood (intake) and private/home school parent requests of FIEs

Qualification Requirements

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field
  • Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as an LSSP
  • One of the following licenses/certifications needed (i.e., Educational Diagnostician, Speech-Language Pathologist, School Psychology and/or Occupational Therapy)
  • Valid Texas license as a Speech Pathologist granted by Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology
  • One of the following licenses/certifications needed (i.e., Educational Diagnostician, Speech-Language Pathologist, School Psychology and/or Occupational Therapy)
  • Valid Educational Diagnostician Certification
  • One of the following licenses/certifications needed (i.e., Educational Diagnostician, Speech-Language Pathologist, School Psychology and/or Occupational Therapy)
  • Licensure by Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
  • One of the following licenses/certifications needed (i.e., Educational Diagnostician, Speech-Language Pathologist, School Psychology and/or Occupational Therapy)
  • Minimum of 3 years special education leadership/supervisory role at district level
  • Minimum of 3 years experience providing instructional/related services and/or evaluation services as it relates to special education
  • Exhibits excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, fostering efficient workflow and positive, collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrates exceptional time-management skills, effectively prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and optimize productivity.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and effectiveness in roles outside of primary licensure area, with a strong capacity to quickly acquire relevant knowledge and deliver high-quality outcomes.

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
