Lead Rad Tech - Surgery

About the Role

This position provides leadership in the imaging department to ensure consistent high-quality standards of care and patient outcomes. The role involves maintaining positive working relationships with department leaders, OR staff, providers, and ancillary services. You will provide direct care, coordinate daily activities, and model professional practice and customer service behaviors. While the primary focus is on OR needs, you will also step in for other imaging staff and leaders as necessary.

This is a full-time 0.8 position with 8-hour shifts Monday through Thursday between 6:45 AM and 7:15 PM, including rotating call for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires specialized staff who can work in highly coordinated teams. Care is organized around each patient’s condition, demanding exceptional teamwork, efficient communication, and behaviors that support high-functioning integrated teams.

Responsibilities

• Utilize and provide information effectively, adjusting to shifting priorities and work assignments.
• Maintain timely and efficient imaging services, coordinating staff to match patient flow.
• Serve as a technical resource for imaging exam details, image quality, systems, and equipment.
• Monitor and ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient care by staff and providers.
• Demonstrate accuracy, efficiency, and completeness in all tasks, reducing waste through proactive time management.
• Function competently as an Imaging Technologist, taking initiative and following up as needed.
• Respect others’ priorities and meet urgent requests when possible.
• Manage time effectively, adhering to department attendance policies and demonstrating flexibility in service assignments.
• Prioritize patient and family needs, responding to requests for information and assistance in a timely, courteous manner while respecting professional boundaries.
• Keep families informed of delays and ensure imaging equipment is operational, troubleshooting issues and overseeing service and preventative maintenance.
• Work with leadership to ensure quality control testing and regulatory mandates are met or exceeded.
• Actively engage in committees, task forces, and department meetings, integrating high ethical standards and core values into daily work.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to maintain continuity of care.
• Investigate the potential impact of new equipment, systems, and upgrades on users, workflow, and existing systems.
• Hold staff accountable for expectations, addressing performance issues promptly and enabling growth through feedback and encouragement.
• Collaborate with Lead Technologists to support cross-training and appropriate staff utilization across modalities.
• Actively participate in staff meetings and contribute to an environment conducive to educating healthcare professionals.
• Set clear, meaningful, and attainable goals for individuals and groups aligned with organizational objectives.
• Provide oversight to ensure images meet the expectations of ordering physicians and radiologists.
• Promote accountability and transparency through quality dashboards, reporting near misses, and medical errors.
• Provide meaningful feedback to staff and peers, collaborating and negotiating within the Imaging leadership team to resolve issues and achieve goals.

Qualifications

• Required: Experience in one or more imaging modalities within the area(s) of responsibility.
• Required: Current ARRT and CPR certification.
• Required: Graduate of an accredited school or equivalent certification.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in imaging, management, or another healthcare-related discipline.
• Preferred: Active involvement in professional associations.
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and/or disabled populations.

Pay

The hourly wage for this opportunity ranges from $31.36 to $45.44 per hour, dependent on factors such as hours worked, education, and certification/licensure.
