Position Overview

This Lead Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing and supervising routine tests as required on raw materials, in-process components, and finished delivery of products. In addition, this position will supervise and direct technicians in the performance of tests, inspections, processing methods, materials qualifications, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Supervises daily quality control operations and Quality Control field personnel.
  • Perform and/or supervise the sampling, processing, and testing of materials to meet required DOT specifications.
  • Monitor and test process functions to ensure products meet or exceed requirements.
  • Prepare and record accurate information; maintain databases; documentation of onsite observations and test results; and communicating results appropriately.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of lab testing equipment and maintain documentation.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Initiate and conduct training of Quality Control field and plant technicians and maintain training records on all certified employees.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with General Managers, Plant Managers, Construction Superintendent and Forepersons, Safety Personnel, in-house testing personnel, state and local testing labs, and existing and new customers.
  • Troubleshoot product issues in the field with plant manager, operations manager, and Quality Control field technician, and conduct problem resolution with customer upon approval from General Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Associate degree in Construction Technology/Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent; and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • IDOT Aggregates testing level 1 and 2 certification or equivalent with the ability to obtain certification in all areas of the field.
  • Work Requirements: Must be 18 years in age or older. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal/motor vehicle background check. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Regular, on-time and consistent attendance is required; must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time. Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
