About the Role

WSP is initiating a search for a Lead Project Manager for the Salt Lake City, UT office, with consideration for Phoenix, AZ; Helena, MT; or Lakewood, CO. This role involves projects with the US Mining Team, providing project management, engineering, and controls leadership for mining, mineral processing, metals, industrial water treatment, chemical processing, and heavy industrial projects across North America and internationally. You will be responsible for overall project delivery including financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule, ensuring project lifecycle responsibilities are completed to WSP and industry best standards.

Your Impact

  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts to deliver multiple concurrent projects.
  • Lead and monitor scope, schedule, and budget; manage overall project performance and key performance indicators such as SPI, CPI, engineering schedule, forecasting, resource utilization.
  • Lead project teams delivering engineering studies, detailed engineering, EPCM, Owner's Engineer, and other consulting delivery models, ensuring alignment with client objectives, project governance, and industry standards.
  • Projects may include mining infrastructure, mineral processing facilities, hydrometallurgical plants, water treatment facilities, tailings storage facilities, and other major industrial developments.
  • Develop sufficient technical understanding of each discipline (process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil, structural, geotechnical, water resources, environmental) to facilitate interdisciplinary coordination, identify risks and interface issues, and support decision-making.
  • Support business development including client relationship management, proposal development, project pursuits, contract negotiations, and resource planning.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Establish and drive the appropriate levels of technical review, select qualified staff for reviews, and ensure adherence to the QA/QC plan.
  • Develop and update Project Initiation/Setup Documentation including Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan.
  • Complete formal project closeout activities and conduct a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in a project engineering, project management, or engineering management role within the Mining, Mineral Processing, Industrial Water Treatment, or Oil & Gas industries.
  • Well-defined knowledge of project delivery process within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry and strong background and experience in project management.
  • Highly proficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with leadership, clients, subcontractors, and employees at all levels.
  • Experience being responsible for project financial performance, tracking and reporting on expenditures, and forecasting estimated costs to complete.
  • Self-motivated with excellent verbal/written communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
  • High proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required (average expected below 25%).
  • Must pass background check and be authorized for work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Certifications preferred: PE, PMP, MBA.
