About the role
The Lead Professional - Fire and Life Safety Engineering will interpret building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. They will negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals, provide subject matter expertise, and design fire alarm/life safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Interpret building code, life safety, and fire code requirements.
- Negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
- Provide subject matter expertise throughout the West Region for fire alarm applications.
- Design fire alarm/life safety systems.
- Commission fire alarm/life safety systems in various facilities.
- Directly interface with clients.
- Organize in-house resources.
- Follow quality control review processes of all project documentation.
- Develop project proposals and budgets.
- Mentor junior staff.
- Conduct fire alarm system related marketing and educational presentations to clients and staff.
- Prepare technical reports/specifications.
- Participate in department initiatives.
- Review architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements.
- Contribute to the overall business development of the company.
Requirements
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior fire and life safety design experience.
- The appropriate candidate will have at least one of the following:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, or related engineering discipline with a P.E. license.
- NICET Level III with a minimum of 8 years of fire alarm industry experience.
- Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications
- Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, or related engineering discipline with a P.E. license.
- NICET Level III with a minimum of 8 years of fire alarm industry experience.
- Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Skills
- Strong understanding of ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.
- Ability to negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
- Experience in designing fire alarm/life safety systems.
- Experience in commissioning fire alarm/life safety systems in various facilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
