Lead Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineer
WSP is seeking a Full-Time Lead Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineer to work out of Arlington, VA or New York, NY. This role involves providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
- Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements, including familiarity with ICC and NFPA codes (IBC and NFPA 101).
- Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements.
- Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
- Producing fire safety strategy documents to inform and support building design.
- Design of fire protection and life safety systems, including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
- Performing and reviewing fire engineering calculations, including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis, from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modeling.
- Assisting in the commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
- Directly interfacing with clients and organizing in-house resources.
- Following quality control review processes for all project documentation.
- Developing project proposals and budgets, and conducting financial management of projects.
- Mentoring junior staff and preparing technical reports/specifications.
- Participating in department initiatives and contributing to business development.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent.
- 7+ years of fire protection and life safety consulting experience working on Federal projects.
- PE (Professional Engineer) registration required.
- Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret/Top Secret clearance.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
- Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD.

- Active US Government Security Clearance.
- State Department consulting and design experience.

Pay
Expected salary (all locations): $122,700 - $182,200.
