Lead Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineer

WSP is seeking a Full-Time Lead Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineer to work out of Arlington, VA or New York, NY. This role involves providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sectors.

Responsibilities

• Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements, including familiarity with ICC and NFPA codes (IBC and NFPA 101).
• Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements.
• Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
• Producing fire safety strategy documents to inform and support building design.
• Design of fire protection and life safety systems, including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
• Performing and reviewing fire engineering calculations, including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis, from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modeling.
• Assisting in the commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
• Directly interfacing with clients and organizing in-house resources.
• Following quality control review processes for all project documentation.
• Developing project proposals and budgets, and conducting financial management of projects.
• Mentoring junior staff and preparing technical reports/specifications.
• Participating in department initiatives and contributing to business development.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of fire protection and life safety consulting experience working on Federal projects.
• PE (Professional Engineer) registration required.
• Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret/Top Secret clearance.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
• Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active US Government Security Clearance.
• State Department consulting and design experience.

Pay

Expected salary (all locations): $122,700 - $182,200.
