About the role

This position involves preparing a variety of menu items using standardized recipes, coordinating the preparation of multiple food items, and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the daily production of entrees, sauces, gravies, and vegetables.
• Cooks and serves a wide range of menu items following standardized recipes.
• Coordinates the preparation of multiple food items at once.
• Operates various food service equipment, including ranges, ovens, steamers, kettles, food processors, and slicers.
• Ensures adherence to HACCP procedures, maintaining proper food temperatures and minimizing waste.
• Cleans and sanitizes the kitchen and serving areas daily.
• Assists in directing and instructing kitchen personnel.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of experience in food service preferred.
• Commercial cooking experience preferred.
• BCPS food service experience preferred.
• Must obtain Certified Food Service Manager-Level I certification within 90 days of hire.

Skills

• Knowledge of food preparation, service, and storage.
• Ability to read and interpret recipes.
• Ability to operate food service equipment.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

• Work in a kitchen and cafeteria environment.
• Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, standing for up to 3 hours, and enduring extreme temperatures.

Grade and Salary

• Grade 03 AFSCME Pay Scale.
• Hours: 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 6.5 Hours/.8125 FTE.
• SALARY: $16.10 - $24.24 per hour.
