About the role
Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division is seeking a Lead Power Electronics Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, NC. This role involves designing and developing high-power, three-phase UPS systems and contributing to our growing Energy Storage product line. The position requires involvement throughout the product lifecycle, from initial concept to production, working within a dynamic, global, and cross-functional team environment.
Responsibilities
- Successfully launch critical power infrastructure products that meet customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule commitments.
- Work with cross-functional engineering team to design and develop new products including SiC three-phase UPS's from 20kW to 2.5MW and Lithium Ion 1MW and larger energy storage systems for maintaining critical loads such as datacenters and hospitals.
- Specify and qualify electrical components (breakers, fuses, SCR’s, contactors, power cables etc.). Create circuit diagrams, harness designs, BOM development and technical documentation.
- Lead product DVT and validation testing in the lab with a team of engineers and technicians.
- Support prototype build, testing and delivery of products to the customer.
- Engage cross-functional teams to identify optimal layout while balancing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and long-term serviceability.
- Participate in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents.
- Work closely with regulatory experts to ensure design meets UL and other certification body requirements.
- Identify opportunities for process, tools, and test methodology improvements, and drive those from concept to implementation.
Qualifications
- Required (Basic): Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with minimum 5 years work experience in electrical product development OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least three years of work experience in power electronic design.
- Strong hands-on experience in electrical design, lab testing and trouble shooting.
- Solid knowledge of electrical components, electrical safety, EMC and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of three-phase power systems, power electronics, and power conversion topologies.
- Understanding layout design principles and familiarity with schematic entry and PCB design tools like Altium, Cadence, etc.
- PREFERRED: Experience with 3 phase UPS electrical design, experience applying digital control and algorithms to power electronics systems, understanding of Magnetics Design for high frequency Power Electronics, ability to simulate, analyze, troubleshoot using HIL systems, competent with Matlab/Simulink/PLECS and PSPICE, analyze and simulate power electronics systems from board level to complex products.
