Lead Polysomnographic Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

The Polysomnographic Technologist performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the direct supervision of a Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the clinical director (MD, PhD, and DO).

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs.
  • Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
  • Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data and follow "lights out" and "lights on" procedures.
  • Complete polysomnographic record scoring and data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality.
  • Comply with BRPT standards of conduct.

Qualifications

  • Education: Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography. OR Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one-year duration associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technician.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Must have current American Heart Association BLS certification and must maintain current status throughout employment. License by Board of Polysomnography (NJ)

Qualification

Preferred but not required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
