About the role
In this role, you will be responsible for leading plant layout and piping engineering/design activities for small to mid-sized industrial gas projects and project packages, from early design through construction support.
Responsibilities
- Coordination of internal and outsourced engineering/design resources with moderate guidance, focusing on plant layout, piping design, and associated deliverables across engineering, procurement support, fabrication, construction, and commissioning support.
- Lead plant layout and piping discipline efforts to produce technical deliverables in collaboration with Linde Engineering, other disciplines, and external partners.
- Develop procurement, fabrication, and construction deliverables (drawings, MTOs, specifications, calculations), interfacing with civil/structural as required for foundations, pipe racks, and supports.
- Create plot plans and equipment layouts for new facilities and revamps; coordinate 3D model reviews and perform material quantity take-offs for piping and associated supports.
- Estimate engineering hours for internal and outsourced resources and develop layout and piping design documents in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Facilitate 30%, 60%, 90%, and constructability design reviews; participate in P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, and HAZIDs as required to achieve safe and operable plant layouts and piping designs.
- Review vendor drawings and data to verify compliance with project requirements and support incorporation into plant layout and piping deliverables.
- Support reliability and mechanical integrity evaluations for piping and related components (e.g., loads, flexibility considerations, maintainability/access), and support resolution of field issues as needed.
- Interface with internal stakeholders, other disciplines, and suppliers to resolve layout and piping technical issues and integrate vendor data into the model and drawings.
- Ensure plant layout and piping deliverables comply with Linde standards and applicable codes/regulations (e.g., ASME and governing building/industrial requirements as applicable).
- Support procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning by coordinating resolution of layout and piping technical queries (RFIs), model/drawing updates, and site support as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with strong knowledge of plant layout and piping engineering and working knowledge of related disciplines.
- 8+ years of experience in plant layout and piping for industrial gas, LNG, natural gas, refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, or similar industries, including understanding of applicable codes and regulations for facility design and engineering.
- PE license or EIT certification (with progress toward PE licensure) preferred.
- Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and knowledge plant design software (Intergraph Smart 3D, SmartPlant Review, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Microstation).
- A detailed understanding of plant layout and piping engineering (Piping Material, Pipe Stress Analysis, Piping Design, and 3D CAD Applications).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal), with ability to interface effectively with internal stakeholders, vendors, and virtual teams.
- Ability to work effectively in office, supplier, construction, and operating plant environments.
