Responsibilities
- Ensure the Inpatient Phlebotomy, Outpatient Lab and the Specimen Processing area maintain a continuous workflow.
- Complete associated duties, such as drawing blood, transporting specimens and interpreting physician orders.
- Handle internal and external customer service issues/concerns and initiate any necessary follow-up.
- Communicate to the staff all procedural changes and/or problems pertinent to the delivery of healthcare.
- In the absence of Supervisor or Team Leader, serve as the point person for problem resolution in a timely manner.
- Collect blood samples from all patients using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques.
- Interpret physician orders for sample collection.
- Instruct patients in the proper technique for collecting various specimens.
- Process specimens and enter results for tests referred to reference laboratories.
- Deliver all samples collected to the Laboratory Accession Area for processing.
- Ensure safety and attend to any patient who faints or becomes ill.
- Cookbook orientation and training schedules.
- Aid Supervisor/Team Leader to ensure section is in compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards and safety guidelines.
- Aid in the training of Phlebotomy students and the orientation of new employees.
- Participate in and/or conduct in-services and continuing education programs.
- Attend workshops, seminars and lectures to keep current on new procedures and equipment.
- Maintain inventory system for Laboratory stock and Outpatient Drawing Areas.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory
- Proficiency in infant and pediatric phlebotomy

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $19.25 Maximum hourly: $29.30
Schedule
Days from 4:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 3:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. + on-call requirements with every other weekend and holiday requirements.
