This position functions as an advanced technical leader to support all aspects of medication preparation and distribution services under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Responsibilities
- Support the safe, efficient, and compliant preparation and distribution of medications.
- Provide advanced technical, operational, and functional leadership within the pharmacy.
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered technical support services to ensure accurate medication preparation, packaging, and inventory control.
- Serve as a subject matter expert within a designated specialty or operational area and lead education initiatives.
- Assist with productivity oversight, onboarding, and training of new staff, competency development, quality initiatives, and departmental projects in coordination with pharmacists and technician leadership.
- Anticipate, recognize, and resolve complex operational and technical issues within the team, department, or customer care areas.
- Perform medication preparation and packaging, including sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Manage inventory, documentation, and maintenance of medication storage and security standards.
- Ensure accurate medication dispensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Ohio Board of Pharmacy rules, state and federal regulations, USP standards, and institutional policies.
- Support both patient care and research protocols while promoting a safe and efficient medication-use system.
- Mentor Pharmacy Technicians I–III and contribute to performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served, including completing mandatory education requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Active Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) registration and national certification (PTCB/NHA).
- 2 years of relevant work experience required; 2 years as Pharmacy Technician III at OSUWMC preferred.
- Maintain Certified Pharmacy Technician status with Ohio Board of Pharmacy and active PTCB/NHA certification throughout employment.
- Meet departmental competency requirements and pharmacy standards of employee conduct.
