About the role

The Lead Patient Transporter position at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital is responsible for transporting patients safely and efficiently. This role requires a combination of customer service skills, medical knowledge, and physical stamina.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with nursing, imaging, and other departments regarding delays and patient transport needs.
  • Ensure patient passports are complete and understand handoffs, verifying patient identification using two-step verification.
  • Prepare patients for transport, identifying IV bags, Foley catheters, or infusion pumps needing special handling.
  • Maintain adequate supply of transport equipment and dispose of soiled linen and other items left on equipment.
  • Monitor and report observations, conditions, and problems of patients to licensed personnel.
  • Disinfect equipment before and after use, ensuring thorough drying time.
  • Operate transport equipment safely and tag equipment needing repairs.
  • Assist in improving department scores for patient satisfaction and safety.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of customer service, patient transportation, or nursing assistant experience, with one year in patient transportation.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in English for patient and employee safety.
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Adapts to multiple priorities and actively participates in problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of stretchers, wheelchairs, mobility devices, and isolation/infection control procedures.
  • Ability to communicate with patients and staff in a HIPAA-compliant manner.
  • Proficiency in operating transport equipment safely.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of customer service, patient transportation, or nursing assistant experience, with one year in patient transportation.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
