Lead Oculoplastic Technician

Responsibilities

  • Test and record patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes and collect and process specimens for testing
  • Triage emergency cases appropriately into physicians' schedule and maintain patient flow
  • Prepare patient and procedure room and assist ophthalmologist with procedures as needed
  • Perform first level maintenance on ophthalmic equipment and notify the office manager of any equipment malfunctions
  • Utilize infection control techniques and universal precautions, and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Prepare the patient chart/EMR and room for exam based on the physician requirements and preferences
  • Accurately and thoroughly document the patient-provider interactions as they are being performed by the clinician in the patient’s chart/EMR
  • Track testing and medication orders by the physician
  • Provide the highest level of service and care to our patients
  • Educate the patient regarding testing, procedures, prescription instructions, etc.
  • Serve as a work-up technician and perform accurate ophthalmic procedures and testing (auto-refraction; visual acuity; measure and record glasses; tonometry; pupils; dilate; HRT; VF; pachymeter; corneal topography; OCT; B-scan; keratometry; confrontation fields; administering eye drops or ointments)
  • Audit patient charts to ensure accurate information has been entered
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • Excellent communicator – both verbally and written
  • Outgoing, loves interacting with patients every day
  • Comfortable providing white glove service and responding quickly to patients' needs
  • Dependable problem solver – handles stressful situations calmly
  • Positive, can-do attitude and works well in collaborative environments
  • Flexible – rolls with the punches and accepts change easily
  • Knowledgeable in ocular pharmacology such as anesthetics, steroids, antibiotics, mydriatics and cycloplegics, epinephrine, miotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (a plus, but not required)

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Reliable transportation as you will need to travel between NY locations: West Nyack & Hawthorne, and CT location: Fairfield (travel compensation will be provided)
