Lead MRI Technologist

Join West Ashley Diagnostic Imaging as a Lead MRI Technologist in an outpatient imaging setting. Combine advanced MRI expertise with exceptional patient care to deliver high-quality diagnostic exams.

Responsibilities

  • Complete scans effectively and efficiently:
    • Collect pertinent data about the patient and the procedure
    • Select the most appropriate cost-effective action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition
    • Screen patient for ferrous and RF-sensitive material before the patient enters the magnetic field
    • Position and prepare patients for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures
    • Select appropriate immobilization devices
    • Review the patient’s chart and the physician’s request to determine optimal scanning parameters for the suspected pathology
    • Prepare and administer contrast agents in accordance with state and federal regulations
    • Enter necessary patient information to initiate the scan(s)
    • Assess and monitor the patient’s physical and mental status throughout the procedure
    • Review images to determine if additional scans will enhance the diagnostic value of the procedure
    • Document diagnostic, treatment, and patient data in the appropriate record. Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise, and complete
    • Archive images to data storage devices according to established guidelines
    • Keep workflow in such a manner that it is an effective use of time, equipment, and supplies
  • Maintain the highest standards of patient care possible:
    • Implement and maintain the MedQuest Best Customer Service Program
    • Provide accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand
    • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique
    • Exhibit exemplary technical competence and clinical judgment
    • Ensure that the required supplies and equipment are available
    • Check all equipment routinely and perform preventive maintenance when necessary
    • Maintain a safe environment by monitoring cryogens
    • Act as a preceptor for new employees
    • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, peers, and all members of the healthcare team
    • Lead at least one training session per year for fellow employees
    • Develop at least two case studies per year to present to others in the Center or Region
  • Ensure the Center’s compliance with MedQuest Policy procedures, OSHA, local, state, and Federal regulatory requirements:
    • Follow radiation protection guidelines
    • Participate in formal training and service programs
    • Ensure that deadlines are met with regards to reports
    • Perform quality assurance activities based on established quality protocols
    • Document quality assurance activities and results
    • Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to medical records and other data
  • Exhibit an understanding of the Center budget and scan volumes:
    • Communicate regularly with the scheduling department
    • Establish goals with the scheduling department
    • Develop a system to add unscheduled patients into the timetable for scans
  • Continuing Education:
    • Cross-train for additional modalities within the center
    • Complete and retain certification in MRI technology
    • Build education files on an outstanding or interesting case

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
  • ARRT registered (R), (MR) and, preferably, (CT) or certification in an additional modality performed at the center
  • Must complete required CEUs in a timely manner to ensure certification remains active
  • Active state licensure(s), where applicable
  • CPR Certification is required
  • 0 to 4+ years of experience as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist

Skills

  • IV skills required
  • Advanced knowledge of MRI procedures and standards
  • Advanced skill in operation of MRI equipment
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of anatomy
  • Customer service background and focus
