Lead Medical Assistant- Orthopedics and Sports Medicine
About the Role
Under the supervision of the provider, the Lead Medical Assistant (MA) performs all duties of a clinical assistant while maintaining the daily operation of the Blanchard Valley Medical Practice office as delegated. Blanchard Valley Medical Practices, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, provides a total continuum of care to more than 100,000 households in an eight-county area with the mission to provide “Caring for a lifetime.”
Responsibilities
- Serves as a Lead to associates, provides feedback to the BVMP Manager, and holds all associates accountable for daily work assignments while maintaining a pleasant work environment; leads by example.
- Delegates work assignments to other associates as needed, oversees workflow to minimize overtime, secures coverage for the BVMP Office, and processes office payroll.
- Assists the Provider with patient care as required, follows directions accurately, performs intake calls, reviews patient medications and procedures, and assists with chart documentation.
- Completes department and organization competency requirements and ensures office staff complete annual competency requirements.
- Trains new associates using proper policies/procedures and provides training for new procedures to the office.
- Manages daily patient and provider flow: schedules patient appointments, updates demographic information, prepares exam rooms, and serves as a liaison for patients to resolve customer service issues.
- Demonstrates exceptional organization skills.
- Assists in BVMP office meetings and/or huddles.
- Assists BVMP Manager with additional duties including Press Ganey reports, Quadax, and charges/billing issues.
- Makes empowered decisions while remaining respectful and courteous to all staff.
- Conducts clinical procedures including blood draws, vital signs, audiometry, visual acuity, urinalysis, and injections.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant certification is required or a minimum of 3 years of equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of computers, telephone operations, and other office equipment.
- Experience with throat cultures, hemocues, hemoccults, glucometer, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy testing.
- A valid driver’s license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver’s license, you must obtain one within 30 days of residency in the state). Must meet BVHS's company fleet policy, insurance company requirements, and any other requirements to operate a vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications
- Medical Assistant Certification.
- Previous leadership experience and strong leadership qualities to increase associate productivity and satisfaction.
- Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, or a science background.
Physical Demands
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting, and standing. The associate will walk for up to one hour a day, stand for five hours a day, and sit for two hours. Must be able to lift twenty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. Requires good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity to operate machines. Must have excellent verbal communication skills, corrected vision, and hearing within the normal range. This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.).
