Lead Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

WSP is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for our Seattle, WA or Boise, ID office to develop new clients and projects in the Healthcare sector and lead project teams.

About the role

This individual will drive growth in the Healthcare sector by cultivating client relationships and overseeing the full project cycle—from design through construction close-out—for complex healthcare environments such as hospitals, medical centers, and outpatient facilities. Our practice delivers MEP design services for millions of square feet of advanced medical facilities nationwide and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership on pursuit efforts and maintain client relationships.
• Coordinate, review, and approve mechanical design plans to ensure high quality, code compliance, and alignment with best practices.
• Apply advanced mechanical engineering techniques to improve project phases, including concept development, design, procurement, construction, and operation.
• Incorporate future-ready techniques and design requirements that enhance system functionality for owners, occupants, and end users.
• Manage design and construction of mechanical systems from project inception to completion.
• Ensure project deliverables are provided on schedule through collaboration with clients and project teams.
• Drive new business by building sustainable client relationships.
• Oversee cross-functional engineering teams on mid-level and concurrent projects, including budget management, task completion, technical calculations, and compliance documentation.
• Prepare data visualizations (tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations) to interpret and present complex data.
• Develop comprehensive technical reports and presentations addressing design and construction issues or opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
• 7+ years of relevant post-education experience as a mechanical engineer with a focus on HVAC systems.
• Professional Engineering license.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical design, particularly in the Healthcare industry.
• Established presence in the local design community with a network of partners and clients in the Healthcare market.
• Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, design/build, and design-assist delivery models.
• Experience in project planning, design, and construction management for renovation, new design, and construction projects.
• In-depth knowledge of engineering and mechanical construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
• Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans and specifications, and compare findings to regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership in coordinating and directing teams to complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• LEED AP Certification.
• 5+ years of Project Management experience.

Pay

Expected salary (Colorado only): $118,000 – $175,230.
