Lead Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

WSP is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for our Seattle, WA or Boise, ID office. This role focuses on developing new clients and projects in the Healthcare sector and leading project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

About the role

This individual will drive growth in the Healthcare sector by cultivating client relationships and overseeing project delivery from design through construction close-out. The role involves active participation in the full project cycle for complex healthcare environments, including hospitals, medical centers, and outpatient facilities. Our team delivers MEP design services for advanced medical facilities, contributing to high-profile national and international projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead client relationships and provide technical input on pursuit efforts.
• Coordinate, review, and approve mechanical design plans to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and best practices.
• Apply advanced mechanical engineering techniques to improve project phases, from concept development to operation.
• Plan and incorporate future-ready design strategies that enhance system functionality for owners, occupants, and end users.
• Manage design and construction of mechanical systems from project inception to completion.
• Ensure project deliverables are provided on schedule through collaboration with clients and project teams.
• Drive new business by building sustainable client relationships.
• Oversee cross-functional engineering teams on mid-level and concurrent projects, including budget tracking, task completion, and compliance documentation.
• Prepare technical reports, visualizations, and presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and design solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
• 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC systems.
• Professional Engineering license required.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical design, particularly in the Healthcare industry.
• Established presence in the local design community with a network of partners and clients in the Healthcare market.
• Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, design/build, and design-assist delivery models.
• Experience in project planning, design, and construction management for renovation and new design projects.
• Strong understanding of engineering laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
• Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans, and apply mechanical engineering principles.
• Demonstrated leadership in coordinating and directing teams to complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• LEED AP Certification.
• 5+ years of Project Management experience.

Pay

Expected salary (Colorado only): $118,000 - $175,230.
