Job Description
The Services Instrumentation and Controls C10 / C35.6 mechanical engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing Instrumentation and Control (I&C) equipment that control safety critical functions for the BWRX-300 Small Module Reactor. Their specific focus is on mechanical components which hold electronic equipment and the interconnecting cables. This role requires technical problem solving, requirements management, and effective communication/collaboration with other teams and engineering disciplines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Document requirements and ensure designs meet requirements.
- Develop / modify mechanical designs to hold electronic components while meeting all requirements for installations in Nuclear power plants.
- Confirm designs meet requirements through analysis and testing.
- Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
- Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
- Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
- Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
- Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- 4 years industry experience in mechanical design.
Eligibility Requirements

Desired Qualifications
- Experience in highly regulated industry.
- Instrumentation and Controls cabinet design experience with cable design and routing experience.
- Seismic analysis qualification experience.
- Familiarity with Nuclear standards and qualification methods.
- Boiling Water Reactor / Small Module Reactor design experience.
- Extensive familiarity with Inventor, SolidWorks, and / or AutoCAD.
- Solves technical challenges through application of common design patterns and identifying appropriate patterns for use in problem solving.
- Experience with typical engineering project design methods from requirements definition through confirmation testing of final design.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to articulate clearly.
- Contributes to creative solutions and challenges status quo.
- Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption.
